rimero tenemos que instalar el xgl y compiz como nos lo muestra esta pagina

Y si n osabes ingles lo voy a poner aqui:
Primero instalamos esto:
para Ubuntu.
sudo apt-get install nvidia-kernel-common nvidia-glx
Despues pasamos a configurar el xorg.conf
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Buscamos la seccion de Module y cambiamos lo siguiente:
# Load "GLcore"
# Load "dri"
Load "glx"
si no tenemos el glx lo ponemos pero si no esta entonces no se instalo bien el driver nvidia y si no tenemos alguno de los otros dos pues asi dejarlo y comentar el otro.
Despues en el mism oarchivo buscamos la seccion Devices y debe de quedar de la siguiente forma sin mover en donde dice el modelo de nuestra tarjeta:
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
Hay que fijarse que esto este asi:
DefaultDepth 24
Ahora guardamos el archivo y lo cerramos.
Ah instalar el compiz:
sudo apt-get install compiz xserver-xgl libgl1-mesa xserver-xorg libglitz-glx1 compiz-gnome
A continuacion ya habiendo instaldo todo editamos esto:
sudo gedit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom
Y borramos todo lo que este en el archivo y ponemos esto:
# GDM Configuration Customization file.

# This file is the appropriate place for specifying your customizations to the
# GDM configuration. If you run gdmsetup, it will automatically edit this
# file for you and will cause the daemon and any running GDM GUI programs to
# automatically update with the new configuration. Not all configuration

Ahora creamos el archivo para iniciar el compiz le pueden poner compiz_start o como ustedes quieran pero yo me voy a referir a compiz_start.
sudo gedit /usr/bin/compiz_start
Y le ponemos lo siguiente:
#!/bin/bash
gnome-window-decorator & compiz --replace gconf decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher &
Esto lo vamos a cambiar despues para instalar el cgwd.
Le damos permisos de ejecucion:
sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/compiz_start
Y despues ponemos esto en consola:
xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.es
Ahora para iniciar compiz solo ponemos en consola:
compiz_start
Y si lo queremnos al iniciar la sesion nos vamos a sistema >> preferencias >> sesiones y ahi en programas al inicio ponemos añadir y le ponemos compiz_start y listo.

Bueno reiniciamos y nos tiene que salir el tema por default y todo eso y si nos funciono entonces ahora si vamos a ver como instalar lo demas.
Para entrar a nuestros repos le ponemos lo sigueinte:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
y al final ponemos:
# Compiz quinn, cgwd
deb http://www.beerorkid.com/compiz/ dapper main
deb http://xgl.compiz.info/ dapper main
Ponemos esto en consola:
wget http://www.beerorkid.com/compiz/quinn.key.asc -O - | sudo apt-key add -
Y hacemos un sudo apt-get update
Y depues instalamos lo sigueinte:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl compiz-gnome gset-compiz cgwd cgwd-themes
Ahora hacemos un sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Antes de reinciar y todo eso tenemos que hacer lo siguiente:
Editamos el siguiente archivo:
sudo gedit /usr/bin/compiz_start
Le quitamos lo que tiene y le ponemos esto:
#!/bin/bash
cgwd & compiz --replace gconf decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher &
Y listo reiniciamos y ahora si podemos cambiar los bordes de ventana y tener un bonito compiz.
Ahora como cambiar temas
Nos vamos a sistema >> preferecias >> CGWD themer y ahi escojemos la que mas nos guste.
